Mindfulness Meditation

Fridays 5:30-6:30pm with Ali Ashtari

Practice is open to beginners and dedicated practitioners alike; we may stand, sit or even lay down during our one hour together. We are opening to the compassionate practice of bringing attention to the present moment, using the anchors of breath, body, sound, thoughts and emotions.

Mindfulness Practice as defined by Gil Fronsdal: The English word "mindfulness" is the usual translation for the Pali word sati. Most generally, sati means to hold something in awareness. When the Chinese translated Indian Buddhist terms into Chinese characters, sati became a character with two halves: the top half is the character for " the present moment" and the bottom half is the character for "heart." The combination suggests that mindfulness is connected to the heart, to being "heartfelt in the present moment." It points to the possibility of holding our experience in our hearts, to having an accepting, soft, and spacious awareness toward whatever is occurring in the present moment.

Saturdays 10:30-11:30am with Adrienne Shum and Sundays 10:30-12:00pm with Monica Angelatos

Restorative classes are an excellent way to balance out the stress of modern life. Students of every level can benefit from a calmer nervous system, and the gradual deep opening this class provides. Bring recuperation to your organs, nervous system and consciousness. Long supported holds soothe the mind and encourage an inward focus. Props are often used to enable a longer respite in the pose and allow for a deeper release. Pranayama breathing techniques may used. Restorative postures bring a calming end to the day, week or weekend.

Sound Bath

Saturdays 4:45-5:45pm with Serena Postel

Immerse yourself in the healing sounds of quartz crystal and tibetan singing bowls. The bowls are gentle yet powerful facilitators of meditative states supporting the body's innate healing wisdom, which can be restricted or blocked. Complimented by guided meditations, classes may include chanting or toning or gentle movement. At all times, students are invited to participate in a way that is intelligent for their bodies in that moment, receiving the benefits of the healing sounds in a way that makes sense for them. Enjoy deep relaxation and time gently spent with your Self. All levels of meditation experience and body abilities welcome!

Thai Yin Yogassage

Tuesdays 6:30-8:00pm Specialty Class with Monica Angelatos

Thai Yin Yogassage is a therapeutic yoga class that combines Yin yoga and Thai yoga Massage. In a Yin yoga practice the poses are held for several minutes to stretch the connective tissues of the body, primarily targeting the tissues of the hips, thighs and lower spinal region. This practice not only lengthens and releases tension in the muscles but also exercises the bones and joints creating space and relieving the body from aches and pains.

In Thai yoga massage the therapist uses hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Traditional Thai Massage is based on energy flow along lines (energy channels), called Sen. The therapist works on the energy points to relieve blockages and imbalances in the energy line in order to restore wellbeing. Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. A combination of thumbing, palming, pressing and stretching results in a relaxing, therapeutic session, which restores balance and maintains good health. Traditional Thai Massage can be applied gently for relaxation, or deeply to relieve muscular and myofascial tension. Thai Massage offers freedom from stress, stiffness, and chronic pain.

These two practices are complimentary to one another and are offered in a yoga class setting limited to 6 students. While holding yin poses for 5-10 min the therapist moves from student to student offering Thai massage techniques, to relieve stress and tension from the body. Thai Yin Yogassage is a complete practice, combining meditation, breath work, relaxation, restoration and deep tissue releases to maintain health and promote a general sense of well-being.
